Australian Institute of Architects – Residential Architecture – Houses Award – 2011
The design outcome reflects the client’s desire to retain an original Canberra cottage heritage residence whilst transforming the house to accommodate a contemporary and outdoor lifestyle. The architecture responds politely by the use of off-form concrete and black steel elements dispersed around the existing house. The opening up the northern end rear facade allows the residence to engage with the pool and outdoors. The other minor elements of carport and gazebo complete the composition.
